Elderly people comprises 28 percent of Azerbaijani pensioners

Elderly people comprise 28 percent of the Azerbaijani pensioners, Azerbaijan State Social Protection Fund (SSPF) senior official Elman Babayev said.
October 1 is marked as the International Day of Older Persons. In 1992, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution according to which annually the world marks October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons.

The Azerbaijani government attaches special care to the elderly. On June 22, 2001, National Leader Heydar Aliyev signed the Law "On the provision of social care for older people."

Under the law, citizens of the Azerbaijan as well as foreign citizens without citizenship who temporarily live in the country and have reached the age of 70 are considered older persons in the country. 

Babayev said 365, 467 people older than 70 years receive retirement pension.
