Those injured at restaurant brawl in Baku appeal to Azerbaijani media (PHOTO)

20 July 2009 [12:57] - TODAY.AZ
Day.Az has received a letter from Babak Huseynov and Vusal Mammadov who were injured during a brawl at a restaurant “Lebanese” in Baku.
The letter says: “Dear Mass Media representatives! We appeal to you regarding the incidents that took place on 8th of July. On that day, we met in front of “Sahil” metro station and took a stroll till we arrived at “Fountain Square”. Then we proceeded to “Lebanese” restaurant in order to eat something, chose a place to sit, and ordered our food. There were 7-8 people eating and drinking at the next table. After a while, we heard them curse with a very loud voice. We felt very unconfortable and warned them. But they ignored our requests to be quiet and continued on. We asked them not to swear because we wanted to rest quietly. Some of them retorted that, “We will do whatever we desire to do. Do not dare to preach us!” Then it turned into a heated debate. Although we did not want to start a fight, they attacked us. We were trying to protect ourselves. Two of them were beating us ruthlessly. As a result, we suffered multiple injuries. We are still being treated in a hospital up to this day. We heard from our friends that there is a campaign going on against us by some newspapers. As if we beat them. We read some of these newspapers ourselves and got assured that they published a libel against us. They want to blame us guilty. We object to this act. We feel that the police officers get influenced by these accusations and work against us. That is why we ask You not to let us be victims of false accusations and urge you to write the truth and assist in emergence of the truth.”
