OSCE secretary general notes transparency in Azerbaijan’s penal system

OSCE Secretary General Marc Perin de Brichambaut noted progress of Azerbaijan in the creation of a modern penal system during a meeting with the Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Judicial-Legal Council Fikrat Mammadov.
“Construction of a detention facility in Baku that meets international standards is a striking example to it. I also want to note the openness and transparency in this sphere,” Brichambaut said on Thursday in Baku.

During the meeting the sides highlighted establishment of administrative courts in Azerbaijan and monitoring activities of courts.

Mammadov also noted dynamic development of relations between Azerbaijan and the OSCE and emphasized the work done in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, OSCE, especially the training of judges and candidates for judge.

Brichambaut, in turn, stressed the importance of the rule of law and expressed his gratitude for the open and close cooperation in this regard.
