Croatia confirms first A/H1N1 flu case

04 July 2009 [08:30] - TODAY.AZ
Tests have confirmed the appearance of the first case of A/H1N1 flu in Croatia, the Western Balkan country's health minister said on Friday, Xinhua reported.

Darko Milinovic told an extraordinary press conference in Zagreb that the patient is a 60-year-old woman, who arrived in the Croatian seaside resort of Split from Sydney on July 1, the Croatian news agency HINA reported.

Milinovic said the patient was receiving treatment at home.

On June 15, Milinovic announced but later denied that the first case of A/H1N1 flu in Croatia has been confirmed. He said the World Health Organization's Collaborating Center on Influenza in London made a mistake and wrongly confirmed A/H1N1 flu for a Croatian male patient who came from abroad recently.

In June the World Health Organization has declared an A/H1N1 pandemic -- the first flu pandemic in 41 years. The Croatian epidemiology service has repeatedly stressed it is prepared for the worst.
