Azerbaijani member of parliament proposes to increase benefits for newly-born babies

"I have submitted this proposal to head of the parliament's administration Safa Mirzayev and chairman of the Social Policy Committee as a bill," member of parliament Elmira Akhundova told Trend News.

She said the project can not be implemented this year due to shortage of funds. "The bill is expected to be brought up for discussions in 2010," he she said.  

Akhundova said the benefit for newly-born babies is too low in Azerbaijan. "Benefit for the first baby to the family is $155 and $300 for the second in Kazakhstan and Ukraine. The benefit is 50 manat in Azerbaijan," she said.
