Azerbaijani Ombudswoman appeals to Internal Ministry due to force against ANS reporter

Azerbaijani Ombudswoman appealed to the Internal Ministry to investigate the force by police against a reporter of ANS company.
In the evening of April 27 at 00:00, journalists of the ANS television company were forced by police, while shooting the pulling down of the Prophet Muhammad Mosque in 190, Murtuz Alaskarov street, Yasamal District. Correspondent Nijad Suleymanov approached to head of the Yasamal District Administration Ibrahim Mehdiyev and chief of the Yasamal Police Station Mohabbat Huseyinov to take an interview. Mehdiyev and Huseyinov refused from giving interview to the correspondent.

Huseyinov instructed policemen to seize correspondent's camera and cassette. Suleymanov refused to implement the order and was beaten by approximately 30 policemen. As a result, policemen survey squad's camera and cassette.

Police even threatened journalists to take them to police station. Survey squad's camera was damaged.

Ombudswoman Elmira Suleymanova stressed that insult, blood pressure and physical attacks on journalists and the media is unacceptable. Ombudsman.

Ombudswoman asked the Minister of Internal Affairs Ramil Usubova to investigate the incident and to take preventive measures.
