Public Committee on Penitentiary Service Control holds meeting

Members of the committee, Chief of the Justice Ministry Human Rights and Public Relations Department Faig Gurbanov and Chief of the Justice Ministry Sentence Execution Inspection Malik Alekperov attended the meeting, the committee sources told APA. The Public Committee coordinator Sahib Mammadov said they have visited seven penitentiaries and have submitted reports to the Justice Ministry since January 9, 2009, when the committee’s third composition was elected. Malik Alekperov spoke about the issues raised by the committee members during the discussions.

Faig Gurbanov mentioned the measures taken by the Penitentiary Service and Medical Head Office regarding the problems and recommendations they showed in the reports prepared on the results of their visits to the penitentiaries. The head of the department said they discussed with the Justice Minister the proposals made by Sahib Mammadov on the participation of the Public Committee in the correctional works in the penitentiaries. He said Justice Minister Fikrat Mammadov welcomed the Public Committee’s proposal to organize days of legal support in the penitentiaries. The minister also supported the proposal to hold workshops for the journalists at the Justice Academy.
