Baku to become capital of Islamic culture of 2009 from February

From February of this year Baku will be declared the capital of Islamic culture.
In this connection numerous events will be held in Azerbaijan and works on preparation of the related website, commercials and five documentaries about Azerbaijan.

According to AzTV, chief of department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Firudun Gurbanov noted that the main topic of the meetings on February 18-19 at the ceremony of declaring Baku the capital of Islamic culture will be intercivilization and intercultural dialogue.

He said along with events in Baku, they will also be held in the regions. "It is planned to hold Days of Culture of several Islamic states, as well as musical festivals of Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Isran, Morocco and Qatar. Poetic parties of the Islamic world will also be held", said he.

The official ceremony with participation of foreign visitors will be held at Heydar Aliyev's palace. At the ceremony the visitors will be presented books "Ancient Baku" and watch Fikret Amirov's ballet "1001 nights".

Notably, the decision to declare Baku as a capital of Islamic culture in 2009 was adopted in November of 2007 at the fifth Islamic conference of the Ministers of Culture of the OIC member-states in Libyan capital Tripoli.
