Internet tariffs in Azerbaijan to be reduced by 20%

Day.Az reports with reference to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies that in particular the tariffs on the dislocation of equipment and provision of services in the buildings, in the areas and stations of Teleradio PU for organizations, which provide services for educational establishments, locating in the areas, where there is no opportunity to lay a line, were reduced by 80%.

On the basis of this decision the tariffs on equipment were ratified in the amount of from AZN 0.54 to AZN 53.6 (VAT exclusive), antenna system from AZN 2 to 105 (VAT exclusive). It should be noted that these tariffs have earlier been from AZN 2.68 to 268 (VAT exclusive) and from AZN 10 to AZN 525 (VAT exclusive), respectively.

I the result of the reception of new tariffs, there will be provided connection to the internet of schools, located in the areas, where there is no opportunity of telephonization by means of laying lines, and conditions will be created for economy of due expenses in the sphere of education.

Moreover, tariffs for launching innercity digital channels (ports) with a speed of 2 MB/s, for other organizations (except for budget organizations) were reduced from AZN 1200 to 600 (50%), while tariffs for monthly use of these channels from AZN 320 to 300 (6.3%).

The reduction in tariffs is also envisioned while connecting to as well as the use of digital communication channels (except for Baku) from AZN 240 to 200 per complete or incomplete distance of 50 kilometers, with a volume of 2 MB/s from AZN 180 to 150 (16.7%).

Thus, there will be created an opportunity to reduce the cost of internet services of providers which will result in reduction of internet tariffs for ultimate consumers by 15-20%.

New tariffs will be effective from January 15 of 2009.
