The decision was made after a fatva declaring the start of Muharram month on December 29, reports Day.Az with reference to ANS TV.

The big concert program planned on December 29, in Azadliq square of Baku City, was cancelled. The decision was made after the fatva of the Council of Gazis of Caucasian Muslims Office announcing Muharram month’s start on December 29. There will not be holiday fireworks as it was told ANS by an official of Baku City Executive Office.  Nonetheless, preparations are underway for the New Year. Christmas Trees have already been decorated in central streets of Baku. One of the biggest Christmas trees was set up in front of Huseyin Javid park. Another new and extraordinary tree was set up in front of Mashadi Azizbayov monument. This New Year tree reflects Baku’s view illustrating Old City, Twin Tower Gates and the building of Baku Executive Office on it. It is interesting that this tree works with an automatic devise. The equipment and illuminations were imported from Russia. The biggest New Year tree is set up in Azadliq Square. The Christmas tree with 20 meter height will be illuminated with special lights. An ice field with total of 250 square meters of area and a laser screen with 300 square meters of area will be set up. Moreover, special devices will create an artificial snow effect for the Christmas tree.

Christmas tree decorated in Az Neft square is 17 meter long. Though there is nothing extraordinary in this tree, it will also be illuminated with special light effects. As Baku City Executive Office informs, more than ten Christmas trees have been set up in Baku. There will be inaugurations of two carnivals brought from France and “Avtodrom” attraction brought from Italy on the New Years Day. A special attraction model resembling a bull, symbol of 2009, was set up in front of the Maiden Tower. All of trees in central streets of Baku have been illuminated with lights and decorations on the occasion of New Year’s Eve.
