Water supply to be cut to Baku and Sumgayit residents

Residents of Baku and one of the biggest cities of Azerbaijan - Sumgayit- will be left without water, both technical and fresh water from 15:00 Thursday, said chief of the general department of Sumgayitelektrikshebeke Eyar Gasimov, according to Novosti-Azerbaijan.

According to Gasimov, the electric supply to pumping stations of the Azersu will be cut on Thursday due to the accumulated debt topping AZN 45 mln ($55.7 mln).

"The administration of this structure has been repeatedly warned about the receivable bills for the used electric energy. Yet, the administration did not undertake steps to pay them", noted chief of the general department.

"The first vice premier of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyubov was also informed about the said problem and he confirmed that Azersu is responsible for the established situation", Gasimov noted.

"The supply of electric energy to Azersu pumping stations will not be restore until the minimal payment of debts", concluded he.
