Criminal proceeding initiated on fact on beating of Yeni Musavat newspaper correspondent

15 December 2008 [18:05] - TODAY.AZ
The investigation materials on the case of the chairman of the Organization for Karabakh Liberation Akif Naghi have been transferred to the Binagadi district prosecutor's office, said inspector of fifth police department of the Binagadi region of Baku Elbrus Gadimov.

He said the criminal case against the head of the Organization for Karabakh Liberation has not been instituted yet.

"Both sides have been interrogated. The prosecutor's office will define the nature of Naghi participation in the incident. A criminal case can be instituted on the facts of beating, hooliganism, causing slight damage to health, but this is the prosecutor's office to take in it", noted Gadimov.

Assistant for prosecutor of the Binagadi district of Baku Basti Sultanrashidgyzy noted that a criminal case was instituted due to the incident under article 163.1 (hampering the legal professional activity of the journalists, obliging them to spread or reject publication of any information with the use of force or abuse) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that Yeni Musavat newspaper correspondent Zamin Hajili was beaten on December 12 in front of the office of the newspaper. The cause of the incident was that in his article Hajili called Akif Naghi "illiterate". The head of the organization considered it to be an abuse.
