An Azerbaijani serviceman, sent to Iraq for a peacekeeping mission, was killed there.

Azerbaijani Defense Ministry confirmed death of Azerbaijani serviceman of the peacekeeping contingent in Iraq.

According to the press service for the Defense Ministry, soldier Aghayev Rafael Seyidbala oghlu died, fulfilling his peacekeeping mission. As is reported, Aghayev served in the peacekeeping contingent of Azerbaijan in Iraq for about a year.

Day.Az reports with reference to ANS-Press that the deceased was Aghayev Rafael Seyidbala oghlu, born in 1988. He was recruited in the military enlistment office of Khachmaz region.

The information was provided by relatives of the deceased serviceman. He will be buried today in Mamedilkhichi village of Khachmaz.

The details of his death are unknown so far. The Defense Ministry did not provide any information regarding the incident.

It should be noted that this is the first case of death through the whole period of Azerbaijan's participation in the peacekeeping operations in Iraq. 150 Azerbaijani peacekeepers are guarding a hydroelectric power plant in Al-Nadida city.
