Homosexual accused of stabbing journalist undergoes trial in Baku

A preliminary hearing on the case of homosexual Sergey Strekalin, accused on stabbing Azadlyg newspaper correspondent Agil Halil, was held in the Nasimi district court of Baku, a source from the court reports.

Thus, the preliminary session was held in the absence of Halil's defender Elchin Sadikhov, as he was abroad.

The court hearing is scheduled for June 20.

In line with the materials of the case, the journalist was attacked on March 13 and stabbed in the chest.

Sergey Strekalin was brought to responsibility under articles 127.1 (deliberate causing of not life-threatening harm to health) and 234.1 (illegal production, purchase, storing, transportation, transfer or sale of narcotic and psychotropic substances or precursors" of the Criminal Code.

Strekalin got acquainted with Halil in 2005 near Ganjlik metro station and had intimate relationships with him.

It should be noted that Halil was brutally beaten in Baku on February, as he was working in the Olive Gardens. The journalist had his fingers broken. During the interrogation, persons, accused of fight, did not confess that they attacked the journalist.
