A special rapporteur for political prisoners in Azerbaijan will possibly be appointed, Day.Az correspondent, who attended a press conference on results of the visit of human rights activists to Strasbourg for participation in the PACE winter session, reports.

Arzu Abdullayeva, chairman of the Helsinki Civil Assembly said, the rapporteur will possibly represent such countries as Switzerland, Cyprus, Austria and Denmark.

Human rights activist Saadat Bananyarli noted that the issue of the appointment of a new rapporteur  will be  settled following the visit of PACE co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan Andres Herkel and Yevgenia Jivkova to Baku.

"Everything will depend on the steps to be taken by the government of Azerbaijan", Bananyarli said.

During the visit the co-rappourteurs will see the three imprisoned reporters, as well as former Ministers of Health and Economic Development Ali Insanov and Farhad Aliyev.
