Baku selected candidate for hosting Olympic games of 2016 first among CIS countries

The International Olympic Committee completed the receipt of appeals for hosting the Olympic games of 2016 on January 15.



The candidates for the title of the capital of Olympic games-2016 are Baku (Azerbaijan), Doha (Quatar), Madrid (Spain), Prague (Czechia), Rio-de-Janeiro (Brazil), Chicago (United States) and Tokio (Japan).

The International Olympic Committee will define the short list of candidates after analyzing proposals in June of 2008. The applications contain financial and economic grounds of the potential to host the Olympic games.

The winner will be defined in Copenhagen on October 9, 2009.

It should be reminded that the Olympic games have never been held on the territory of the former USSR countries (except for Olympic games -80 in Moscow), or in Eastern Europe.

South America and Near East countries also have never been selected for hosting the Olympic games. However, Rio-de-Janeiro and Doha have hosted large international sport events and the experience of organization increase their chances to host Olympic Games-2016, according to experts.
