International association AzIz opens representation in Ashdoda, Israel

Over 200 Bakuvians gathered in a cosy hall of the Ashdod restaurant "Kolizey" on January 12.

Former Bakuvians gathered to see the old year off and meet each other, going back to the dear memories of the past.

The meeting was attended by guests from Beyer-Sheva with ever young Nina Yarova, guests even from far Afula, as well as Dimona, Netivota, Yerukhama and Sderota, Bney-Ayisha. The meeting has become another proof that Bakuvians is a special group of the citizens of Israel, who have a common past, Bakuvian character and kindred towards each others.

For Ashdoda Bakuvians the meeting is a symbol of an organization success, as  the creation of the Ashdoda representation of the international association AzIz to be chaired by Svetlana Semkina, chairman of the association "airness to Repatriants", famous as an organizer of many successful actions in support of olim, was declared during the meeting.

Yosif Shagal, Knesset Deputy, chairman of the Azerbaijan-Israel intergovernmental commission, president of AzIz association urged Bakuvians to unite and noted that the community of Israeli Bakuvians is strong in its love for the past, its energy and mentioned a  number of examples of how Bakuvians gave many samples of successful integration and absorption in the country of origin.

This was followed by a New Year Party, peculiar only to Bakuvians. Old friends were hugging one another and so traditional greetings as "salam-shalom" sounded like absolute synonyms.

The film on wonderful Baku, which carried the participants away to the Baku boulevard, to the feet of Icheri Sheher-Maiden Tower, and to the narrow streets of the fortress, was accepted with a special warmth and nostalgia...

Meanwhile, the tables were filled were traditional pilaf and shahlik, eggplant dolma, eaten with delicious pickles, traditional toasts were proposed and everyone believed that the connection with the past will get even stronger between Bakuvians and will never break.
