Baku police detains beggar saving good fortune of over $58,000

27 December 2007 [18:08] - TODAY.AZ
The Baku police revealed that one of Baku beggars has saved over $58,000.

According to the Yasamal district police station, 57 year old resident of the capital city Guldeste Atashova was detained on suspicion of extortion by begging in the result of criminal investigation, carried out by officials of the said police station.

One of the police officers noticed that Atashova's 28-year-old son lives in the city center, does not work and drives Mercedes. These facts made the policemen keep their eyes peeled on the beggar for a little while. The investigation revealed that G.Atashova keeps $50,000 in one of the Baku banks. Another $8,000 were revealed in her house.

Atashova has been begging for 11 years, sitting at one and the same place (near the Yasamal market).

So, it would be good to recollect the chairman of the Caucasus Moslems Department Allakhshukur Pashazade who said: "If you want to help those are really indigent, allocate funds to the Caucasus Moslems Department, where they are spent on charitable actions".
