65 cases of human trafficking fixed in Azerbaijan

65 cases of human trafficking have been fixed in Azerbaijan with 95 people brought to responsibility through 11 months of 2007, as reported by the first deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Vilayat Eyvazov.
He noted that 27 facts of human trafficking were registered in 2006.

According to him, mostly females at the age of 18-40 become the victims of human trafficking.

"In the main, the victims of human trafficking are carried to Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, India and USA", he said, adding that the victims of human trafficking  are transported from Moldova, Ukraine, Middle Asia and Russia to Azerbaijan with a part of them furher exported to other countries."

The Deputy Minister noted that the Azeri government undertakes purposeful measures to struggle human trafficking.

"At the first stage we improved the legislative base and since 2009 the amendments have been made to the Criminal Code, including an article, envisioning punishment for human trafficking, which was added to it. Multilateral and bilateral agreements on cooperation in the sphere of human trafficking have been signed with the CIS countries, Turkey, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates and India. These countries assist Azerbaijan in the detainment and expatriation of people, engaged in human trafficking, to the countru.

Azerbaijan have also joined  international conventions in this sphere. International police  also assist Azerbaijan in this issue", the first Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan added.
