Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry warns of flood

Rise of temperature caused the snow's melting in the mountains. As a result of it the level of water in transit rivers – Kura, Araz and Ganikh increased, APA reports.

Rise of water level in Georgia and other neighboring countries is observed ion connection with rise of temperature and snow’s melting in the mountainious regions. The level of Shamkir reservoir rose by 7.17m, Mingachevir by 1.70m and Araz reservoir was filled as a result of the rise of water level in transit rivers on May 1-17.

The level of Shamkir reservoir is above maximal level by 3.9m, Mingachevir reservoir below by 1.43m and Araz reservoir above by 25sm.

High water level as well as overflow in some rivers of Great Caucasus is observed in connection with rise of temperature and snow's melting in the mountainous regions. The Water in the rivers of Guba-Khachmaz region will be 30-60% above ten-day norm on May 17, 40-80% in Balaken-Sheki, close to the ten-day norm in Kazakh-Ganja, 30-40% below ten-day norm in the rivers of Lankaran-Astara.

The levels are higher 45 cm on May 17 in comparison with the corresponding period of 2006, but 60-70 cm below the maximal levels observed in 2003. The level of the water will rise in transit rivers (Kyur, Araz and Ganikh), especially in mountain rivers and floods are expected in the rivers of Big Caucasus due to the gradual rise of temperature soon, and as a result of melting of snow in mountainous regions of neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan. The increase of water in reservoirs (Mingachevir, Araz) will probably cause the increase of water in the lower flow of Kyur (Sabirabad, Saatli, Ali-Bayramli, Salyan and Neftchala) and water percolating.
