Newspaper editor and correspondent sentenced to 2 and a half year in jail

The next trial on suit of parliamentarian, academician Jalal Aliyev against Mukhalifet (Opposition) newspaper was held at Yasamal district court.

Jalal Aliyev's suit was justified. Editor-in-chief of the newspaper Rovshen Kebirli and correspondent Yashar Agazade were sentenced to two and a half year in jail.

After the verdict was announced Kebirli told exclusively that the court decision was unjust. The lawyer Reshid Hajili also protested to the decision, APA reports.

Jalal Aliyev's representative Ikram Shirinov said they do not protest to the verdict.

Kebirli and Agazade were taken to Bayil detention place #1.

Jalal Aliyev sued Mukhalifet newspaper for the article "AMAY – trade mark of the Aliyevs" which was published on February 27, 2007.
