14 May 2007 [15:47] - TODAY.AZ
Under the slogan, "Prevent. Protect. Immunize", Azerbaijan's First Lady launched Immunization Week in Azerbaijan, at the Children's Baku City Polyclinic No.1.

Dr Mehriban Aliyeva made a tour of the clinic together with Azerbaijan's Minister of Health, Professor Ogtay Shiraliyev. They visited check-up and treatment rooms and cabinets, and the First Lady was impressed with the recent refurbishment of the place, including modern medical appliances and convenient waiting rooms.

The First Lady also talked with mothers who brought their children for vaccination. The parents were happy with the new clinic conditions and the service of the health workers. Dr Aliyeva gave polio vaccines to several children and presented them with toys.

Talking to mothers and nurses about the importance of vaccination, Dr Aliyeva underlined that taking care of the health of children is one of the priorities of the Government in Azerbaijan. She stressed the necessity to reduce the level of infectious diseases, vaccinate more people, first of all of susceptible children, and to raise awareness of the population as regards immunization.

The First Lady will be awarded with an award, the Ihsan Dogramaci Family health Foundation Prize 2007 for her contributions to children and maternal care, at the WHO World Health Assembly on 17 May 2007.

The Immunization Week in Azerbaijan was organized by the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan - with WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, Vishnevskaya-Rostropovich Foundation and International Medical Corps as the main partners. e MaxHealth
