Defense Committee for editor's rights fails to hold forum

Forum of the Defense Committee for Rights of Eynulla Fatullayev, founder and editor-in-chief of "Gundelik Azerbaijan" and "Realniy Azerbaijan" newspapers, scheduled to be held in Baku Business Center did not take place.

The participants and organizers came to the Center at the appointed time, but the door was closed. There was an announcement on the door that the building has been suspended. The members of the committee held a short meeting outside the Center.

Chief of the committee Arzu Abdullayeva said that they talked to the owner of the hall and reached an agreement.

Shahveled Chobanoglu, chief editor of "Gundelik Azerbaijan" said that they will hold protest action in the editorial office. The chief editor read the committee's statement on protection of freedom of expression. The statement notes that pressures on press continue.

The committee demanded to stop illegal activities against the freedom of expression and release Eynulla Fatullauyev.

Chobanoglu noted that the committee planed to organize debates on UN Day of Press on May 3. He said they will continue fight for Eynulla Fatullayev's releasing and take possible steps, APA reports.
