State of Azerbaijani prisoners in Europe and CIS states to be monitored

02 March 2007 [16:22] - TODAY.AZ
International Movement of Human Rights Defenders' Office in South Caucasus plans to monitor the state of Azerbaijanis serving their imprisonment in Europe and CIS states, the head of the office Shahriyar Rasulov told.

He said that they got positive reply to the letters sent to the offices of the movement in Russia and other CIS states.

"Being unaware of the laws of the country, not having lawyers, problem of language sometimes cause unjust judgments. The monitoring held by Russian rights defenders showed that non-Russians, as well as Azerbaijanis are offended," he said.

Rasulov said that the state of Azerbaijani serving their imprisonment in Russia, Ukraine and Georgia will be monitored first. As a result of the monitoring data base will set up with regard to Azerbaijani prisoners.

Ombudsman offices, rights defenders and Justice Ministries of these countries will be informed of the situation, APA reports.
