Police on alert to detain Khudat gunman

The gunman, who resisted the police yesterday in Azerbaijani northern region of Khudat, has been identified.

Khachmaz Police Office crime-investigation department reports that this person is the resident of Evechuq village of Khudat Araz Muradov.

According to the preliminary information, Muradov, who is wanted by Interpol, was involved in some assassination plans against policemen in Baku, Zagatala and Gusar. He fought in illegal armed groups in Chechnya, and is the member of Wahhabism sect and Sadval separatist organization.

On Thursday a woman called to police department and noted that she is threaten by some-one. The officers of Khudat police department conducted inspections in that address. Araz Muradov resisted the policemen threatening them with exploding the hand-grenade on him and could escape with two "TT" automatic pistol and 4 hand-grenades.

The officers of Azerbaijan's National Security Ministry Khachmaz Department and the policemen of region police departments have been involved to the operations to detain the gunman. Operations are mainly conducted in the Azerbaijan-Russia borders, his photos have been already distributed to the border-check points and necessary measures are being taken to detain him.

APA's north bureau reports that Araz's brother Valeh Muradov was killed while resisting police in 2002. During the inspections held in the house owned by Valeh Muradov, known as radical member of Wahhabism sect, topographic map of the region, Wahhabism literature and armaments have been found. One of his brothers is reported to be in Chechnya at present.

Araz Muradov is reported to have warned a woman engaged in prostitution for several times and demanded to give up prostitution. But as his demands resulted negative, he began to threat her with death. The woman appealed to Khudat Police Department. APA
