Health Ministry holds board meeting

Health Ministry held a board meeting on overall results of 2006.

Minister Ogtay Shiraliyev said that surgery has developed in the country. The number of people appealed increased by 11,000 men and the appeals to first aid increased by 60,000 compared with 2005. Minister noted that polyclinics have changed a lot.

Shiraliyev said counterfeit medicines increased by 60-70% in the world market. The law on medications envisages punishments to people engaged in import and export of counterfeit medications. Innovation and Supply Center found 154 kinds of counterfeit medicines and their import was banned. 44 drugstores were suspended.

Minister also said that the number of infectious diseases reduced by 4-7 times, some were not recorded at all.

Deputy Minister, republic head sanitarian Abbas Velibeyov stated that immunization against measles and rubella had been carried out with the advice of World Health Organization and financial support of Vishnevskaya-Rostropovich Fund. In result, 95.2% of the group has been vaccinated. According to the vaccine calendar immunization against regulated infectious diseases carried out 97.7% against polymeria, 95.5% against diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus, 95.3% against measles, parotid and rubella, 95.2$ against hepatitis B.

Deputy minister also talked about the measures taken against the bird flu, PZR laboratory in Republic Anti-Pestilence Station with the finance allocated by the government, purchase of a mobile PSR laboratory on the project implemented with US Department of Defense.

Considering financial allocation by the state for medical preparations, provision of hospitals with necessary medicines and bandages, he also gave instructions to treat patients free of charge and more carefully.

Ogtay Shireliyev stressed once more the medical institutions provide free service for children, the ministry's press service told the APA.
