Azerbaijani powerlifters Nizami Pashayev and Turan Mirzeyev gave up their careers

26 December 2006 [15:17] - TODAY.AZ
The strongest powerlifters of Azerbaijan Nizami Pashayev and Turan Mirzeyev made decision to give up their careers as protest to the appointment of Vahid Nezerov head coach of the team.

They are dissatisfied with the indifference to them, twice world champion Nizami Pashayev told.

"I abandoned my sport career though it was too early. I was forced to do it. I received a number of invitations from foreign countries. But my aim to return to Azerbaijan from Russia was to raise Azerbaijani flag to the top," he noted.

Turan Mirzeyev said that he decided to sell his house given by President Ilham Aliyev in 2003, because of financial problems.

"President gave me the house as I won silver medal at European championship. I decided to sell the house as I am going to marry on Jan 19. And I do not believe that Vahid Nezerov will bring any success to the team."

Turan Mirzeyev ruled out to represent other countries, APA reports.

"I intend to give up my career in the team. I have not answered to the invitations from Iran, Kazakhstan and Georgia yet. But we should not die of hunger, should we?" he added.
