Sami Yusuf: "My grandfathers are from Baku"

English singer, Azerbaijani by origin Sami Yusuf will have a concert in Heydar Aliyev Sport and Concert Complex.

The singer is already in Baku. He met with the journalists. In the press conference he said that he is proud of being in his motherland. "I am very excited. I did not expect such a welcome. I am 26, and this my first visit to Azerbaijan. My grandfathers are from Baku. They migrated to Tabriz and I was born in Tehran in 1980. Later we moved to England and I was brought up there," he said.

He said that he admires Azeri music and mughams. "My songs are mostly religious. I think religion and mughams are alike. I think of singing mughams and Azeri songs in the nearest future," he said.

The singer also noted that he admires Azerbaijani composers' creative activity and mentioned the names of Uzeyir Hajibayov and Fikrat Amirov, APA reports.
