Armenian Gay and Lesbian Association members assaulted in Paris

02 November 2006 [19:52] - TODAY.AZ
Two members of France-based Armenian Gay and Lesbian Association were injured in an action organized in Paris by Arabian adults from North Africa.

Monthly Nouvelles d'Armenie magazine editor-in-chief Ara Toranyan pledged to appeal to French law enforcement bodies, APA bureau reports.

Armenian Gay and Lesbian Association chairman Misha Merujan requested French Interior Minister Nikola Sarkozi to punish the public order breakers.

He, expressing great gratitude to Nikola Sarkozi for the bill making genocide denial a crime, supported the minister's attitude to North African immigrants in the appeal. He also said that the association will support Nikola Sarkozi in the presidential election.

Armenian-origin French politicker Patrik Davachiyan politicized the assault on gays, saying the rioters chose Christianity as a target and Turks has a "hand" in this process.
