10 October 2006 [15:20] - TODAY.AZ
Independent Azerbaijan University (IAU) students went on sit-down strike outside the university main building yesterday which lasted till the morning, Vugar Suleymanov, Students' Rights Defense Committee member told.

The students went to IAU administrator Abbas Mustafayev’s mosque and called the strike there, APA reports.

They left the mosque after the police interference at 24.00. Then the students gathered at the university building and went on strike till the morning. Suleymanov said their aim was to meet with the administrator.

"Our rights are violated over six months. Mustafayev is the administrator of the university, but he did not meet with us to solve the problem. We paid the tuition fees every year. He pretends not to know us," he said.

Suleymanov also mentioned that they will continue sit-down strike today and will go on hunger strike from October 11.

The students appealed to political parties for the place.
