Education Ministry not to meet protesting students' demands

18 June 2006 [15:14] - TODAY.AZ
The Education Ministry will not meet the demands of the protesting students of the Independent Azerbaijan University, within the allotted time until June 20.

As APA reports, the sophomores will not be transferred to other private higher schools as they illegally entered the university.

One of the students told that they will give up Azerbaijani citizenship after June 20 if their demands are not satisfied by that time. He said 50 students are going on hunger strike now. Vugar Suleymanov and Bahruz Fatiyev stopped the strike due to health problems and have been taken to city hospital #5.

As the protesting girls go their homes at nights, some do not take serious the students’ strike. Mammadov said after that, they decided that the girls go on hunger strike at the university all day.

"20 of the protesting students are girls. We told them to go home at nights. But now they have not gone home for a week. We are sure they did not eat something at home," he said.
