Interfax-Azerbaijan opens its 1st regional bureau

18 May 2006 [18:42] - TODAY.AZ
Interfax-Azerbaijan has opened its first regional bureau, located in Nakhichevan, capital of Azerbaijan's Nakhichevan autonomous republic, and it plans to set up bureaus in other parts of the country in the long term.

"The opening of the Interfax-Azerbaijan bureau is of great significance for the quick provision of information on important events in the public, political, social, and economic life of Nakhichevan and that of the Nakhichevan autonomous republic as a whole," said Interfax-Azerbaijan General Director Alexander Ivanov.

"Whereas earlier Interfax subscribers had to get 'second-hand' information about events in Nakhichevan, now they will have access to quick and, most importantly, authentic information about what is happening in the autonomous region," he said.

Well-known Azerbaijani journalist Kaira Guseinova has been appointed bureau chief.
