US stops receiving Azerbaijani immigrants

The US government stopped receiving Azerbaijani immigrants within the Refugees Program.

As APA reports, the Head of the Migration Information Center Ilham Mazanli said after the 11 September, 2001 terrorism event, the United States has not been allowing arrival of migrants from Muslim countries, including Azerbaijan in the framework of Refugees program.

Only participants of "Green Card" lottery, education, family and business related programs can get migrant status in the US.

Ilham Mazanli also said that Azerbaijanis are migrating mainly to Europe, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Canada. The number of migrants to Australia has increased recently.

According to the UNO record for 2005 there are 200 million migrants all over the world. 20 percent, or 35 million have settled in the United States. Russia (13.5 million), Ukraine (6.9 million), India (6.3 million) rank next in this list. Most of migrants have settled in Europe (56 million) and Asia (50 million).
