Lenkeran population facing electricity problems

03 April 2006 [12:50] - TODAY.AZ
The population of Azerbaijan's region of Lenkeran is facing serious problems in electricity supply. The electricity supply is often cut off in the region.

The local residents inform that their problems have started since Aydin Mammadov was appointed director of the electricity distribution office of the region half a month ago, APA reports.

"He has had various jobs. He could work for only few years in his previous posts. We have never been cut off electricity supply even in critical situations in the country. However, Aydin Mammadov cut off the lights on Novruz holiday," the residents said.

According to the residents, electricity supply is restored for three or four hours at noon and till 6.00 or 7.00am from 12.am.

"Electricity bill in the amount of 20-30 thousand manats (AZN 4-6 manats) per month are demanded while no contract has been signed with consumers, and no electricity-meters have been installed in houses, offices, organizations and commercial establishments," they said.

Mammadov has recently said on the local TV that Lenkeran region has been provided with 21 million/hours electricity recently, which is in the worth of 2.4 billion manats. He also added that the bill in the amount of only 4% of the consumed electricity was collected within a month.

The electricity distribution office of Lenkeran told APA that the only reason of electricity cut off is that the bill is not paid. "The population pay only small amount in return of the consumed electricity. And this causes problems in electricity supply."
