Russia bans fowl import from Azerbaijan

17 February 2006 [11:10] - TODAY.AZ
Russian Agriculture Ministry issued a press release on Thursday.

It reads that Russia has banned fowl and all kinds of fowl imports from Azerbaijan. Reason for the ban which was imposed on February 14 is the confirmation of bird flu in Azerbaijan, APA informs.

State Veterinary Service (SVS) under auspicious of Agriculture Ministry of Azerbaijan told APA that they are unaware of this ban. The SVS thinks imposing a ban is Russia's internal business, but countries always impose such a ban by the instruction of International Episodic Bureau. However it didn't give such an instruction.

On the other hand, Azerbaijan suspended fowl imports from countries where bird flu was confirmed and hasn't imported fowls from not only Russia but also Turkey and Rumania so as to cover its domestic demands and haven’t exported these products since fall months.
