Terms of pilgrimage to be improved

17 February 2006 [09:20] - TODAY.AZ
"The Caucasus Muslims Board (CMB) is seeking ways for improvement of the terms for pilgrimage," said Sheik-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade, the chairman of the CMB.

According to Pashazade, every year the CMB faces with a number of problems while organizing the annual pilgrimage. One of them is linked with payment of deposit for passengers, who selected the air transportation for pilgrimage.

There is no direct flight to the Saudi Arabia and in this respect they demand deposit in the amount of $140 per passenger. Sheik-ul-Islam said that the CMB paid $612,000 last year. It actually creates many difficulties for the CMB and we are obliged to search the airliners of other countries which have agreement with the Saudi Arabia on direct flights. It not obviously right to pay such money without knowing whether the necessary number of people desiring to make a pilgrimage would gather, he told Trend

He also voiced his dissatisfaction with the level of organization of land pilgrimage. Azerbaijan does not have a potential company on passenger transportation by bus, which could offer 100 buses for pilgrims, he noted.
