The Day of Ashura celebrated in Azerbaijan

A religious procession dedicated to the day of Ashura was held in "Taza pir" mosque yesterday.

Correspondent of APA reports from the procession that, thousands of devotees performed prayer read holy Koran and beat themselves with chain during the religious procession in the mosque early morning.

The ambulance teams near the mosque reported that, no one felt bad among the devotees.

Deputy Chief of Main Police Department of Baku, major-general Yashar Aliyev headed the police group preserving public security in "Taza pir" mosque. Y.Aliyev told APA that, the crowded procession passed without an incident.

Blood donation campaign was held for the patients suffering from thalassemia. Doctor of Blood Bank Shirkhan Ranjbarli said to APA that, about 400 people would donate their blood today. According to him, the blood donations were held in all policlinics and mosques in the city. The doctor stressed that, sick children in need of blood are in great majority in Azerbaijan: "The blood donated today will be enough for about two week's term. We test the donated blood for 7 infectious diseases in the Blood Bank. Only healthy blood is given to the patients."

Head of Office of Caucasian Muslims (OCM) Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh, artist Mukhtar Maniyev and parliament member Siyavush Novruzov also donated their blood.

According to the information given to APA by the press service of the OCM, blood donation campaigns will be held in all parts of the country in every Friday by the initiative of OCM and ‘Heydar Aliyev’ Foundation. According to the information, first campaigns were held in "Taza pir" and "Ajdar bay" mosques.

Religious procession on the day of Ashura was also held in "Rahima khanum" mosque in Nardaran. The correspondent of APA reports from Nardaran that, thousands of devotees came to the mosque from various parts of the city. The procession started early this morning. Young worshippers beat themselves with chain and performed other rituals. The procession passed without an incident.
