Protest against publication of cartoons of Prophet Muhammad staged in Nardaran

A demonstration was held in Nardaran as a protest to publication of caricatures of Prophet Muhammad in western press.

Correspondent of APA in the scene reports that elders addressed the protest action and condemned the disrespect for the Prophet in Europe press. Hajji Natig said that western countries tried to discredit Islamic countries time after time. He thinks that, because no reaction was given to these cases on time, and as a result, they drew the caricatures of Prophet Muhammad. Hajji Natig said that, all Muslims and Azerbaijani people have to take stance on this issue and add their protest voices.

He also spoke of recent Nardaran happenings. Saying they requested to meet with the president, he added that, no response has been given to them yet. Hajji Hikmat said that, affront of Prophet Muhammad in western press under freedom of expression is on purpose: "Democracy also exists for us and we should hold protest actions and express our opinions. Let the other villages of Baku express their protests to the disrespect for our prophet."

Nardaran residents burned the flag of Denmark in the protest. The resolution adopted at the end of meeting reads that officials of Denmark, Sweden, France and Spain should apologize to Muslims and hold the culprits accountable.
