Two of hunger-strikers in Gobustan closed prison stopped the strike.
APA was informed by chairman of the prison Sedaget Agayev. He stated that, three prisoners went on a hunger-strike yesterday. Two of them stopped going on the strike as the result of talks held by the administration of prison with the prisoners. One of them still hesitates to make any decision concerning this. He is Mehman Muradov.

It must be noted that, 28 life-term prisoners in the prison declared to go on a hunger-strike without term by yesterday. The prisoners linked this step with the rough violation of their constitutional rights. They told that, death sentence was abolished in Azerbaijan on 10 February, 1998.Under the law, the punishment of the prisoners who committed crime till that time and sentenced to death was substituted with life-term imprisonment:”

This law concerned 128 prisoners who were sentenced to death by mistake.

Thus, in accordance with the law, the punishment of these 128 prisoners was to be reduced to 15 years of imprisonment. But, the law was not obeyed. Our appeals were not cared about.32 of the 128 prisoners died of different reasons during this period, some were pardoned. Only 87 of those prisoners are in prison at the moment. We shall start going on hunger-strike on 1 August. The prisoners who cannot strike due to the health problems share our opinion”.
