Number of Azerbaijani population ups

The number of Azerbaijan’s population continues to grow.

The State Statistics Committee reported that the country's population increased by 1 percent or 96,400 persons in January-November 2016.

As of December 1, 2016, the number of Azerbaijani population reached 9,802,000 people.

About 146,600 births, in other words, on average 438 births per day were registered last year. This indicator features 16.5 births per 1,000 people in the country. 

Some 53.3 percent of newborns were boys, while 46.7 percent were girls, including 2,522 twins and 63 triplets. 

In 11 months of 2016, the registry offices recorded 60,800 marriages and 12,000 divorces. Number of marriages per 1000 persons made 6.9, divorces 1.4.

In January-November, 2016, the Interior Ministry and the State Migration Service registered 3,104 persons for permanent residence in Azerbaijan and 1,709 leaving the country, as well migration balance amounted to positive 1,359 people.  

Azerbaijan is among leading European countries in terms of natural population growth, which in turn contributes to the development of economy.

The "Azerbaijan 2020: Look into the future" Concept of Development reads that during the period covered by the concept, the country's population will increase by 1.1 per cent a year on average and is expected to total about 10.2 million in 2020.
