Parenting is not an easy deal, but single parenting is tougher as it entails extra responsibilities.

When responsibilities for rising a child falls to one parent alone, the challenges double and a single parent has to face continuous newer challenges every day. Single parents must deal with financial and emotional strains that are normally shared in two-parent households.

Single parenthood can bring added pressure and stress. With no one to share day-to-day responsibilities or decision-making, single parents must provide greater support for their children while they themselves may feel alone.

Indeed, one needs to ensure that all the requirements of the family are met, deal with the overload of tasks that too efficiently, meet his/her career responsibilities and above all, deal with emotional over load, not to overlook the emotional requirements of a baby.

Successive governments have recognized that single parent employment is vital to tackle child poverty, reduce the number of children growing up in homes where no one works and in general for healthy society.

To help to ease this burden the government of Azerbaijan may soon reduce working hours for single parents having children under 3.

This proposal was reflected in the amendments to the law "On reduced working schedule for certain categories of public servants" and will soon be discussed in the Parliament.

If the amendments approved, the privileges applied towards "fathers raising children under the age of 1.5 years" will cover all single parents, raising a child up to three years.
