The Botanical Garden of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, established in 1935, will be reconstructed.

Director of the Botanical Garden Vahid Farzaliyev announced about this while talking to Day.Az, adding that reconstruction project has not been designed yet.

“No specific action is taken yet. That is why it is difficult to say when the modernization process starts. However, we carry out reconstruction works in park when it's needed,” he said.

The Central Botanical Garden plays a vital role in preserving the gene pool of rare plants, and it is also a favorite destination for nature lovers. A few thousand different trees and plants grow both in open and closed areas of the garden with total area of 16 hectares. Over 2,000 kinds of trees, shrubs and flowers of Azerbaijani flora are collected there.

Farzaliyev reminded that most of the greeneries of the Botanical Garden were built in 30s, in Soviet times.

"From time to time, these buildings had been renewed. For instance, the old greenery was demolished, and a new one was built instead. The new green house is intended for growing tropical and exotic plants. All necessary conditions for plant growth will also be created soon. The Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences also participates in the process of renovation,” he added.

Farzaliyev further noted that thematic corners of numerous plants have been established here. "Last year we created a rose corner. This year we are creating a medical plants’ corner", said Farzaliyev.

The Botanical Garden of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences was established in 1935 under the Institute of Botany.
