No swine flu cases have been reported in Azerbaijan, said Safaya Ahmadova, a member of the press department of the Health Ministry.

“Not a single case of swine flu has been revealed in Azerbaijan so far,” she said, adding that the epidemiological situation in the country is stable and under a strict control.

The investigations in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic also did not reveal the evidence of infection with the H1N1 virus.

Rakif Abdullayev, the director of the Republican Anti-Plague Station under the Health Ministry said that the station is constantly receiving analyzes in connection with the seasonal flu.

All the results of tests over swine flu were negative, that is, the virus is not detected, he emphasized.

The deadly flu, spreading in the counties neighboring Azerbaijan still makes concern. Since the beginning of the year eight people died from the swine flu in Turkey. Armenia, in turn, registered 27 cases of swine flu disease recently.

Azerbaijan’s relevant agencies say they are taking all the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the disease across the country.

Azerbaijani doctors already have the experience with this virus, when the H1N1 virus was first reported in the country in 2009. At the time more than 10 people were infected with the virus, but no one died.

2009 H1N1 was first detected in the United States in April 2009. Swine flu, also known as the H1N1 virus, is a relatively new strain of an influenza virus that causes symptoms similar to the regular flu. It originated in pigs, but is spread primarily from person to person.
