Geneva hosts Open Day on occasion of 70th anniversary of the UN

On October 24, Geneva hosted “Open Day” on the occasion of 70th anniversary of the United Nations, in the Palace of Nations.

According to the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, more than 20 thousand people, including the permanent representations of the member states of the UN in Geneva, representatives of the authoritative international intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, various media outlets and local community attended the event.

The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva organized an exhibition reflecting ancient history, nature, national culture, rich art and cuisine of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani representatives distributed brochures and magazines, as well as national souvenirs on the history, tourism, culture and art of the country to participants of the exhibition.

A highlight of the day was the inauguration of a sculpture called Rebirth. It is a new work of art by renowned Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto based on the infinity symbol, and composed of 193 stones representing the United Nations' current Member States.

Azerbaijan financially supported the development of the sculpture Rebirth.
