Azerbaijani Armed Forces have prevented the attempt of transferring the Armenian troops on various parts of the contact line on October1-2, the Azerbaijani defense ministry reported.

As a result of the skirmish, two servicemen of Armenian armed forces were shot down. Moreover, a large number of servicemen from the Armenian side got injured.

The Azerbaijani armed forces suffered no losses and fully control the operational situation, said the ministry.

Despite numerous calls by the international community to follow the ceasefire regime, the Armenian armed forces continue to escalate the tension on the contact line of the Armenian-Azerbaijani troops.

The Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire a total of 104 times throughout the day, the Ministry added.

The ceasefire was violated in Tap Garagoyunlu, Gulustan villages of Goranboy region, Chilaburt, Goyarkh, Yarimja and Chayli villages of Tartar region, Sarijali, Yusifjanli, Javahirli, Shikhlar, Novruslu, Kangarli, Shuraabad, Garagashli, Namirli and Marzali villages in Agdam, Kuropatkino village of Khojavand region, Horadiz, Gorgan, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli and Ashagi Veysalli villages of Fuzuli region, Mehdili village of Jabrayil region, as well as nameless hills of Goranboy, Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrayil regions.

The situation on the contact line of Armenian-Azerbaijani troops remained tense during past several days as the Armenian military continued to break the ceasefire using large-caliber machine guns. Frequent shelling by the Armenian military has put the lives of the residents of Azerbaijan’s frontline settlements in danger and has resulted in casualties.

For over two decades, Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict which emerged over Armenia's territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor. Since a war in the early 1990s, the Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions.

Peace talks, mediated by Russia, France and the U.S. through the OSCE Minsk Group, are underway on the basis of a peace outline proposed by the Minsk Group co-chairs and dubbed the Madrid Principles. The negotiations have been largely fruitless so far.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on its pullout from the neighboring country's territories.
