Doctor of journalist Rasim Aliyev must answer before law

12 August 2015 [16:28] - TODAY.AZ

The doctor who operated on journalist Rasim Aliyev must answer before the law, MP Fazail Agamali, member of the Committee on Legal Policy and State Building of the Azerbaijani Parliament, told Trend on August 12.

The MP said that Aliyev felt good during an interview in the hospital.

He said that if doctors had been professional and attentive, Aliyev could have been saved.

"I have seen the journalist’s interview,” he said. “He spoke quietly and in any case he did not seem to be dying. Later it became known that he died as a result of internal bleeding. It is necessary to admit that Aliyev died due to a lack of professionalism and negligence of doctors treating him. If doctors had been more attentive and had shown professionalism, they could have saved his life."

He said that the investigative bodies dealing with the criminal case over Aliyev’s death will concentrate on the doctors’ irresponsibility too.

"Most likely, the irresponsibility of doctors will be added to the investigation files as a single fact to be clarified,” he said. “It is a pity that the doctors are very rarely brought to justice for the death of patients, which occurred due to their negligence."

Rasim Aliyev, working for Ann.az website, was beaten and as a result, suffered multiple injuries on August 8. Aliyev died in a clinical medical center on August 9.

Baku’s prosecutor's office filed a criminal case under article 126.3 of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic (intentional infliction of harm resulting in death of the injured person). An operational-investigative group consisting of police officers was established.
