President Aliyev opens Baku 2015's athletes, media villages

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady, Chairperson of the Baku 2015 European Games Organizing Committee, Mehriban Aliyeva have attended the opening of the Athletes and Media Villages in Baku.

The head of state and his wife first visited the Athletes Village.

Azad Rahimov, Youth and Sports Minister, Chief Executive Officer of Baku 2015, informed the president and the first lady of the work done.

There are 13 apartment blocks and an administrative building in the Village. Some 7,499 people can be accommodated in 1,042 apartments here.

President Aliyev and his wife viewed the apartments, a trade center, restaurants, which offer samples of world and Azerbaijani cuisine, and a medical center.

Following, the presidential couple visited the Media Village and viewed the media accreditation center, apartments for media representatives and a restaurant.

There are four apartment blocks in the Media Village, where a total of 1,830 people can be accommodated in 536 apartments.

The venues are located in the north-west part of Baku, a short walk from the National Stadium and National Gymnastics Arena.

Baku was honored to host the Games by the European Olympic Committees in December 2012. Baku 2015 European Games will gather over 6,000 athletes from 50 countries to compete in 20 sports, including 16 Olympic.
