Police officer gets injured in fire outbreak in Baku while rescuing 4 people

A member of the 2nd Battalion of the regiment of rapid response Hojayev Shahin rescued four people during a fire that occurred in a high rise building in Baku May 19 and got injured in a fire outbreak.

Hojayev rescued three people during a fire on Azadlig Avenue in the Binagadi district of Baku. When he was rescuing a fourth person, a second-year student of Azerbaijan Technical University Ulvi Sadigov, both of them succumed to smoke inhalation.

The police officer and the student had been admitted to the reanimation department of the United city hospital.

A criminal case has been initiated in the Investigation Department on Grave Crimes of the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan upon the fire fact on the Articles 225.2 (violation of fire safety rules), 308.2 (abuse of power) and 314.2 (negligence) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

The fire that occurred in a multi-story building on the Azadlig Avenue in Baku left 15 people dead and 50 more injured, according to the latest data.
