Best of UK film productions will be screened in Baku’s premium class movie theater at 28 Cinema from April 8 to 12.

The event is being held as part of the second British Film Spring, organized by the British Embassy in Baku, the British Council, UNICEF, 28Cinema and PWC.

Elizabeth White, British Council's new Country Director to Azerbaijan in an interview with journalists promised this year’s festival to be different from the previous year.

“This year the festival will be more extensive than last year. We are glad to introduce the best British films to the Azerbaijani public. The program includes a wide range of genres including drama, comedy, and film for children,” she said.

She also noted that “The Ring” film by famous Alfred Hitchcock will be shown at the cinema at 21:00 on April 9.

“The ring” is a British silent sports film shot in 1927. "I think that the film will excite the public," White underlined.

She also added that the films will be screened in English, which is a good opportunity for Azerbaijanis to test their English knowledge.

Prior to the festival, a training session, devoted to children with disabilities was held in the framework of the event. Foreign teachers have worked really hard with disabled children over the past, trying to develop their skills.

Short films demonstrating the abilities and successes of these children will be screened before the films.

“This year, members of “Ali and Nino” shooting, including screenwriter Christopher Hampton, will attend the opening event. We hope the number of films will increase every year. Many famous filmmakers from the UK, as well as hero of “Sherlock Holmes” film, British actor Benedict Cumberbatch will also come to Azerbaijan,” she said.

Over 3000 people had a chance to watch the first British Film Festival, which was held in Baku in 2013, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the British Council in Azerbaijan.

The 28 Cinema, the largest movie hall in the country in terms of its number of seats, uses the modern Enhanced 4K technology, the Barco projectors of new generation and 3D Xpand spectacles. The movie theater with its six halls traditionally hosts film festivals.
