Azerbaijan has said to be determined to protect its children and adolescents from the negative effects of the Internet.

The country will respond promptly to the negative impact the Internet may have on children and adolescents, by creating an appropriate competent authority, a source in the telecommunications market reported.

The issue has been discussed in Azerbaijan for a long time. Earlier, Electronic Security Center, under the Communications and High Technologies Ministry, proposed the application of "Parental Control" which prevents children from accessing inappropriate content.

The software which allows blocking access to prohibited Internet sites and programs, also generates reports, and schedules for the PC's usage.

Today, Azerbaijani children start their acquaintance with high technology and the Internet from early infancy. Adults should realize both physiological and psychological danger of the Internet and all the means to access it.

Parents' lack of internet skills and knowledge can actually harm children. However, experts believe, banning the use of the Internet or a computer will not resolve the problem.

To find a solution, the High Technologies Ministry prepared all relevant proposals for the creation of this authorized body, and the agency has said to stand ready to take all necessary measures in view of protecting children from harmful Internet contents.

The ministry stands for the legal regulation of the protection of children and adolescents from the negative impact of the Internet and the necessary steps, in accordance with international standards.

The agency has prepared proposals aimed at protecting teenagers from the negative effects of the Internet, which may in the future be reflected in the legislation.

The issue is reflected in the regulation of the Electronic Security Center under the ministry.

It is possible that after making all necessary changes to the legislation, the responsible authority will be granted the right to block resources promoting violence, extremism, terrorism, as well as access pornographic resources and other materials considered explicit.
